Painted!

The laundry room is painted! We still have more to do in the room but this feels like such a huge step twoards being done. We went ahead and moved the machines back into the room so I could do some laundry. The piles were starting to take over the house! This is beofre I painted. Standard crummy builder paint, that was filthy!

I don't think I have any of the room before we took out the wall and added the space. If I do they are on my old computer, I might look to see when I get the chance. It would be fun to compare. We still need to put in the floor and trim, and decorate the room, but I have plans for that! The color is Antique White from Behr. I painted the ceiling the same color for intrest and am liking the fact that it makes the space seem biggger.

You can see from where the vinyl ends where the old wall was. The sink was smushed up against it before we tore it out. I plan to make a cute skirt for the sink and a little shelf above to break up the long wall. We will put a shelf over the washer and dryer and a rod above to hang clothes to dry. I am so glad we are finally making some progress!

To tired...

Last night Gwen came into our room, climed into bed with me and fell asleep. Sometime later she woke up and asked for water. Not being fully awake myself I told her to get a glass for herself. I then fell back asleep with no thought to what I had said. When I woke up for the day I wandered downstairs to find her fast alseep in the midle of the hallway on a blanket.Only then did I realize what had taken place sometime during the night. I have no idea how long she was sleeping in on the floor or why I told my little girl who can't even reach the water or glasses to get the water herself! Tonight I made sure to put her to bed with her sippy cup, as I am not a reliable mommy in the middle of the night!

Every month I take one of these shots. As you can see in my header that have grown so much! We are well on our way to Gwen's 4th birthday, I'm noticing the changes in her the most right now. She is loosing the "baby/toddler" look and turning into a big girl! 

Weekend projects and other things

Firday evening my friend and I got together to make  music wreaths. Ever since I saw them on Miss Mustard Seed's blog I have wanted one for my home. My friend just happend to have a large collection of old sheet music sitting in her piano bench waiting for the perfect project. If you want to know how to make them here is the link to the Tutorial  These were so easy to make and fun! I hung mine in the sitting room over an old frame I picked up at a yard sale last summer for 1.00. It's the perfect shape for between the windows and over the loveseat. The pictures were hard to take with all the light coming in the windows, it made them a bit dark and I'm to impatient to play with them in photoshop before sharing them with you all.

While David sanded drywall I went to all my favorite thrift and antique shops for my weekly rounds. I picked up these two tins for 5 dollars each. Someday I hope to use them in a pantry for storage. For now they sit in my kitchen making it cheerful.

More progress was made in the laundry room. We are almost ready to paint, the drywall is done! I am the offical painter so I will be working on that next week, expecially if I ever want to do laundry again. These machines are sitting in the kitchen waiting for the room to get done.

We took a break from house hunting and stayed close to home. It was so nice not to drive and get some things done and spent time together as a family.

As I was sitting here typing this post, David came in from the laundry and informed me that the caps he bought for the old washer hook ups are to big. Yes, that means I now have no running water in my house until he gets home from work tomorrow evening, such is the life during home remodels.

Pencil Art How To

Many of you commented on how much you loved the pencil art I have hanging in my School Room. It was super easy to make, so much so that I don't have any pictures of the process.

 So I will just have to explain with words. 

I saw this in Pottery Barn a long time ago. I don't even know if they ever sold it, I've had the picture in my files forever! I love it and figured it wouldn't be hard to replicate.

I used a hinged shadow box that I had laying around from a buy one get one free sale at Michaels. This size is perfect because it is so thin and it comes with a linen look background. You could use anything I suppose and it doesn't really need glass, but I don't like to dust. :)

I tore off the backing it came with and spray glued the lighter muslin to match the other fabric I have in the room. It was a little more work but I felt worth it since the fabric I used is lighter in color.

I purchased 3 boxes of 12 count colored pencils, mine are Crayola because they were on sale. They come nice and sharp so I didn't have to worry about sharpening them all, check your boxes before you purchase though!

For the ruler I had an old paper tape lying around from some things my mother had given me. I think you could use the ones hospitals use to measure newborn babies heads. They are super white so it might need to be aged if you like the antiqued look.

I glued the tape down the center of my board with a tape runner. Then I layed out the pencils tight up next to each other to get my placement.

Next I got out my hot glue gun and put a line of glue right over the word(where is says the color) side of the pencil and glued them down starting from the top, making sure to keep them tight to each other.

Then I let it dry overnight and hung it up on the wall.
